Welcome!

Welcome to the website of Framingham State University in partnership with Hanyang University. Our program at Hanyang is a fully accredited M.Ed. program with a focus in TESOL from the State of Massachusetts offered by Framingham State University.  The program takes 13 months to complete upon which successful graduates with receive both a Framingham State University M.Ed. (concentration in TESOL) and a Hanyang University Graduate Certificate in TESOL.

The program here at Hanyang starts every January and August and will be completed the following January and August respectively. The classes are delivered via a combination of 2 week intensive blocks in addition to 20 consecutive Saturdays. Example timetables can be seen below:

January Cohort Start

  • 2 week intensives in January (9AM – 6PM Monday to Friday)
  • 20 consecutive weekends from March to July (9AM – 6PM Saturday)
  • 2 week intensives in August (9AM – 6PM Monday to Friday)
  • 2 week intensives in the following January (9AM – 6PM Monday to Friday)

August Cohort Start

  • 2 week intensives in August (9AM – 6PM Monday to Friday)
  • 20 consecutive weekends from September to January (9AM – 6PM Saturday)
  • 2 week intensives in January (9AM – 6PM Monday to Friday)
  • 2 week intensives in the following August (9AM – 6PM Monday to Friday)

The classes taken during the 2 week intensives and taught by Framingham professors include;

  • EDUC 991: Philosophy of Education and Teaching Practice
  • EDUC 998: Language Development and Communication
  • EDUC 999: Research and Evaluation
  • TESL 901: Language Structure: Phonetics and Morphology
  • TESL 902: Language Structure: Syntax, Semantics, and Pragmatics
  • TESL 966: Seminar in Applied Linguistics

The classes taken over the 20 weekends and taught by Hanyang professors include;

  • TESL 913: Current Issues in Second Language Acquisition
  • TESL 948: Teaching Reading and Writing in the English Immersion Classroom
  • TESL 936: The Teaching of Second Language Skills
  • TESL 920: Technology in the Second Language Classroom
